Isaac was the perfect son, the handsome, brilliant apple of his father’s eye. Dr. Ryckman and his wife could not have been happier when their beloved son returned from his travels bringing with him his new fiancĂ©e Elizabeth, who had nursed him through a mysterious illness that had laid him low in far Transylvania. But on the eve of their wedding, the good doctor discovers that whatever that dark affliction was, it, too, had returned to Amsterdam with Isaac, hanging like a dark shadow overhead.
